Beatrix Gates’ is the author of The Burning Key, New & Selected Poems (1973-2023), published by Thera Books. A finalist in the Maine Writers & Publishers Alliance nonfiction chapbook award, judged by Melissa Febos, her hybrid work appears in A Woman Like That: Lesbian Writers Tell Their Coming Out Stories and in Scotland’s MAP Magazine. A Maine Arts Commission Poetry Award recipient, she has been a fellow at MacDowell, Ucross, and VCCA and has been inspired by collaborations with composers, printmakers, and book artists. She has taught memoir, poetry, fiction, and hybrid in settings ranging from her living room to workshops in graduate and undergraduate programs, including NYU and Maine Maritime Academy and rural and urban libraries. She holds a BA from Antioch College, where she fell in love with Book Arts and made her first collection native tongue, and an MFA from Sarah Lawrence College, where she learned to use dialogue in poems to expand story. Today, she lives in Maine but grew up in Boston and has lived for significant periods in NYC and San Francisco.
